Time and Tide and Buttered Eggs.

My husband asked me what I’d like for Christmas the other day. Please don’t panic at the use of the “C” word. It’s normally banned in our house until at least the middle of December, however, Boy works shifts and so we tend to think of our time in blocks of 4 weeks. We talked about what shift he’ll be working over the festive period, who we’d be spending what days with and then the conversation turned to “What would you like?” We don’t go in for big gifts, we prefer to just get a game and play it with a bottle of Jura and some nice chocolate. Sometimes Boy buys me yarns or a book I like. However This year there is a gift I’ve asked for.

Time.

This year seems to have flown by and especially the last couple of months. The other week, for the first time, I had to turn down work. It was a short notice gig for a designer I’ve worked with before. I love working with her and to say “No” was really hard but I just couldn’t do it. I was already up against one deadline and I knew another was looming.

Then there’s my own work. I’ve got sample ideas and stock for my shop that I just can’t get to. I’ve been invited to sell through places that are very kindly waiting for me to get some more design together. They are all ready for knitting but when you work on commissions from 9am until 11pm, it leaves little time for other things. Don’t get me wrong. I am not complaining. I love being busy. I feel like I’m getting somewhere and I know that I’m in a better position than some of my ex-classmates but I would like some more time to get to all the things.

If anyone has the secret of time travel either in the form of a spare time turner, a garage full of DeLoreans or even a TARDIS, please let me know. I will keep you in hand knitted socks for the rest of your life.
