Don’t Ask

There are questions you should never ask a woman without being invited to do so. These range from “How old are you?” to “When are you due?”. Similarly there are questions you should never ask a knitter. To help you here’s a quick list –

What will you do with it?

Don’t you already have yarn?

Don’t you already have that colour?

How much yarn do you have?

This last one is probably the most important. Do I ask you how many shoes you have? No. Because I’m polite and was brought up properly so why is the volume of my stash so interesting? Don’t get me wrong, we share with other knitters. In fact in  that instance you often can’t get us to shut up about stash but that’s because we’re amongst like-minded people who understand and because they usually help enable “Have you ever tried such and such company?” “Oh I knitted that in their baby alpaca and it was gorgeous. You should try that” Suddenly your stash has doubled in size and you have no recollection as to how it happened.

Boy and I were having a tidy up today and I decided to sort out my stash. As I tidied, I took some photos and I’m willing to share because, you dear reader I trust. You will not judge me. “It’s your job” you rely “You’re allowed yarn”. You are willing to overlook the fact that this is not work yarn.

An almost tidy table. Believe me, this is organised.

and under the table *ahem*

And under the sock stash there may be more sock yarn in the purple bucket *ahem*

Lace weight odds and ends that are going to made iinto something

That may seem like a lot of yarn and I haven’t even shown you all of it. Nudges a 24 litre container under the bed.

There is another reason why you shouldn’t ask about the size of someone’s stash. The answer will terrify you!
