The joy of being on holiday is being able to play!. I’m sorry for the exclamation mark but I am super excited about my knitting plans at the moment. It is so nice to feel really inspired and motivated in my work.
Anyway, you’re more interested in what it looks like aren’t you.
For a while, I’ve been interested in the notion of layers. Having differing layers with their own look, interacting with others in a way that means the layers are connected whilst at the same time being separate. OK. I know that sounds like arty nonsense but this is what I mean.
This looks like a piece of knitting with lace holes in it. The yarn is a variegated ribbon and has some gorgeous subtle colours in the transitions. If you look closer however …
There’s other knitting underneath it in a much chunkier yarn. It’s a nice contrast between textures and between the yarns themselves. One glitzy and glamorous, the other more work horse. But combined, they work well. The ribbon hides the heavier yarn and only allows you to catch glimpse of it, adding to its mystery. The heavier yarn gives the gauzy, upper layer some substance.
I’m going to work on this some more. Probably with different colours and maybe more with layers of the same colour and seeing how that affects its intensity.
